I saw the embedded video about Imelda Marcos earlier this year. Through it, I was able to learn more about modern Filipino people in general. Many Filipino people share the same idealism that is just like hers. I think it’s really just not being in touch with reality and not wanting to, but the difference is that Mrs. Marcos can afford it through her high power lineage.

After all these years, I don’t understand why people praise her so much. Maybe it is because people don’t understand her and husband’s atrocities and how much they deeply hurt the Filipino people? Where is this education? Even more amazing to me is that, this year - she won a seat back in congress in the second district of Ilocos Norte. She won over her nearest rival Mariano Nalupta, Jr. by 80% to 20%. After this point, I’m speechless …

You know what?  There are a lot of older folks I have spoken to here in the US who stand by Marcos and say those were the years the Philippines was stable and under control.  It seems to me it’s more about regional and about familial relations than ideologies.  I think from north to south there are strong family strongholds in politics.  Their bases don’t seem to waver and span generations.  Territorial politics seems to play big and you don’t dare cross lines or you might lose a limb or your life…Imelda is still a superstar in her province, there’s no doubt from your statistics.  Point of views sometimes go only as far as the province borders…but again this is from my very outside perspective trying to look in.
