A friend once told me that during the whole EDSA thing, he was in the Philippines and during that time Filipinos in the US knew more about what was going on in the Philippines than the Filipinos in the Philippines. He went on and said because of the dictatorship, media was censored, politicians were held on a leash, and the only information that flowed was word of mouth that came from relatives in the states to the people in the country. That’s a long path to travel. The internet wasn’t around in those days. The attached speech demonstrates what was presented here and eventually inspired protest there.
